Hello, I am currently looking for a more available/cheaper alternative to moxa's UPORT 1150, which is a USB to RS-232/422/485 converter.

This product seems to fulfill all the my needs but it is quite hard to acquire and also not very cheap.

I would also like to have one with a breakout connector included, that makes it possible to directly connect to modbus RTU's bus cable, without a DB9 female adapter.

Any suggested alternatives?

 

For separate 232 or 485 functions, a google search comes up with all sorts of styles with screw terminal connections (your break-out style): short USB plug-ins, USB cable extended styles, DIN rail mount

My criterion is for the brand name FTDI chipset because I've found it the most reliable.

My RS-485 converter is similar to this one, with a FTDI chipset and a DB9 on the 485 side with a screw terminal adapter

For permanent DIN rail mount style, I look for isolation.

In addition to RS232/485/422 it also has TTL (switch selectable 5v or 3.3V). It also has built-in termination resistor (enabled/disabled by jumpers inside the case):

However, keep in mind that one of the tradeoffs of using a cheap converter may be at the cost of reliability.
