Here's the other thing: The drivers can't be GPLed. LGPLed, *yes*, but I don't think that any integrator is going to write a bunch of code so as to control the widget machine and just give that away to anyone that asks. Sure, small programs that twiddle a few bits and turn on a motor, yeah, but I can't see any integrator spending weeks on a project and just giving the
machine-specific code away.
This is one of the issues that has to be addressed -- directly -- by anyone wanting to push GPL software into machines.
