In offshore oil & gas inlet separator water and oil interface measurement is a difficult application. Would request to share if anybody has any success story in this application. Problem is due to various factors - such as sticky fluid, emulsion, changing density and changing dielectric constant. We have tried various instruments - DP, radar, capacitance and nucleonic. Nucleonic is the only technology which works here reliably. But it is very costly equipment. Other technologies haven't given reliable reading. Would like to know if anybody has any success story in this application. Understand that magnetostrictive level instruments also have been used by some operators. So far we haven't tried this yet.
