Please consider a large industrial steam turbine for which after maintenance we have to find out the measurement of the gap/clearance as we installed our labyrinth [old or new].

How can we measure the clearance/gap between the labyrinth seal & the shaft on which it is mounted for a rotor of a turbine/generator when in stopped/cold condition?

 

You can use either feeler gauge or by dial indicator by shaft lift. More precise method to take ID of labyrith in both halves assembled and minus the shat OD to get labyrith clerance.
